Welcome to my blog!

I want to welcome you to what will be my weekly journal as I once again take to the High Seas in the panhandle region of Southeastern Alaska from late May-August.

This summer I will embark in Vancouver (not Seattle like in 2006) and cruise to Tracy Arm/Juneau, Skagway, Glacier Bay National Park, Ketchikan and back to Vancouver in 7 day round-trip cruises.

This particular itinerary doesn't attract very many kids, so the Club HAL staff will consist of myself and one other staff member until late July when we have a few more kids on board. At that point HAL will send out additional staff to assist us. That means that one staff member will run the Kids (3-7's) and tweens (8-12's) program jointly and then the other staff member will run the teen (13-17's) program. Thankfully last summer I had extensive training in the tweens room, with equal experience split between kids and teens, so I feel like I will be able to do a good job handling a room by myself. We'll see!

Also, a definite benefit to this itinerary for me is that the entire cruise takes place within the protected inside passage. I look forward to a summer of nausea free cruising over last summer's weekly "episodes of fun". Cruising from Seattle requires a day's journey in the rough open waters of the Pacific Ocean, so when I found out that my onboard supervisor was now my placement coordinator at headquarters I did request Vancouver as my home port. Yay!!

I am very excited about seeing more of Vancouver, B.C. each week and also spending more time in one of my favorite ports of Skagway. I am sad that I will not be going back to Sitka at all this summer, but thankfully I enjoyed that port 10 times last summer.

Same as last summer I will be making a weekly post with all the activities and photos from that week. I don't know yet exactly which day that will be, but check back and see :)

So, welcome to my summer 2007 blog and I hope you enjoy reading about my journey at sea!
